Homemade Enchilada Sauce

    vegetable oil

  • 2 tbsp. 

    all-purpose flour

  • 2 tbsp. 

    chili powder

  • 1 

    (15-oz.) can tomato sauce

  • 1 1/4 c. 

    low-sodium chicken broth

  • 2 tsp. 

    kosher salt

  • 1/2 tsp. 

    freshly ground black pepper

  • 1/2 tsp. 

    paprika

  • 1/2 tsp. 

    garlic powder

  • 1/2 tsp. 

    onion powder

  • 1 tbsp. 

    granulated sugar

Description

  1. Step 1In a medium saucepan over medium heat, heat oil. Add flour and chili powder and stir until fragrant, 1 minute. Slowly whisk in tomato sauce, then add broth. Season with salt, pepper, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, and sugar. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and let simmer until thickened, 10 minutes. Use as desired.
